Everything Is Working Out Perfectly

At my sister’s 60 birthday party, she gave out bracelets that said “EWOP.” It stands for “EVERYTHING’S WORKING OUT PERFECTLY.” It was perfect timing to contemplate and to share.

I returned to Los Angeles to celebrate my women’s group First Tuesday Circle of Giving 4th year Home Makeover for our 2010 chosen family. The project was for a family of 8 living in a home that needed a ton of work. Our “angel team” was on board to drastically transform their home and to improve the quality of their lives.

It was a blessing for all and there were high moments throughout, but there were also challenging ones. It’s stressful on a family when people….even well intentioned ones….come into your home where you now find yourself with more than one chef in the kitchen and everywhere else! There were also times that ego, power struggle, ‘sweating the small stuff,’ and perfectionism would temporarily throw our volunteers off center.

We may have “angelic” moments and strivings, but after all…..we are still in human form. So during the ceremony, I passed out these bracelets to the angel team that my sister generously shared. Despite the things that were not perfect, we did a pretty spectacular job in service of this family . . . and all the lessons learned were also “perfect” in their timing and relevance.

Keeping this thought alive as a metaphor for life became so clear to me….believing in our visions as we see them…..as we want them….and as they are. Knowing that with all the twists and turns, with the “ups” that feel so high and the “downs” that can feel so down low, we remember to “keep our eyes on the vision and our hearts aligned with it’s purpose.”

As the 19th century German philosopher, Friedrich Whilhelm Nietzsche, suggests…..when anything happens just say to yourself “I need this” because, after all, everything IS working out perfectly.
