What I Learned From The Dolphins

I decided to swim with the dolphins in the wild with a group called www.WildQuest.com. I knew I would enjoy it, and I did so much. What I really underestimated, though, was what i would actually learn from these extraordinary sensient beings:

HUMILITY: I learned that the dolphin brain has been evolving for 5 million years, while the brains of we homo-sapiens have been evolving for a 1/4 of a million years.

CONNECTION: It was amazing to me that our catamaran would be in the middle of the sea and they would just come up to the boat with vision, purpose and connection with us…..ready to check us out, entertain, and invite into their home!

PLAYFULNESS: As I shared….they came to us! And it was as if they were not only playing with one another…..which was quite amusing to watch……but inviting us to play with them!

SENSUALITY: I was inspired to get a bit more back attuned with myself as a sensual being. Dolphins are highly affectionate and even sexual with one another…..regardless of relationship!

Now I can’t claim to promote or want to take on that, but I was indeed intrigued by the sense of freedom they express in all aspects of their existence….including this one!

INTUITION: Dolphins are known to have a sixth sense that informs their behavior and direction. They don’t need to hear or see you to feel you.

HEALING: If they direct their sonar at you, they can literally see through you…..seeing your image with x-ray vision. That is why there are so many stories of people being healed of physical and emotional ailments. These beings are not only playing with us, but working on us too!

BEING PRESENT: Dolphins do not breathe automatically. They literally have to consciously take each breath. Can you imagine that? We take our breaths so for granted, while they must be fully present in each moment in order to be mindful of taking air in to survive….amazing.

VITALITY: Dolphins use 90% of their lung capacity to breathe, whereas we use only 30% . . . and that’s on a good day!

BALANCE: In order to sleep, the dolphin must close one eye to shut off that part of the brain while the other remains alert enough. They then alternate shutting the other eye to let the other part of their brain sleep.

The right side of our brain is said to control the left side of our body — where our intuitive, creative and feminine energy resides. The left part of our brain controls the right side….the “make it happen” masculine side with all of us. Can you imagine if we could alternate sending oxygen and rest to both sides of our being on a regular basis — the masculine/feminine….the sun/moon….ying/yang energies? A great breathing exercise I learned there was to breathe out and in from one nostril, and then breathe out and in from the other. It really does create a very balanced and relaxing state in a matter of minutes…..try it!

I really hope that everyone reading this blog post gets to swim with dolphins in the wild at least once in your life. It’s an experience that just makes you smile ear to ear each day.
